Developed by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez, Zumba blends aerobic movements, such as squats and lunges, with dance elements from hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, meringue, and mambo. Aqua aerobics classes are held in the lap pool in groups and vary in intensity and by teacher. This is a great way to exercise doing a low-impact, resistance-based activity. Movements are done mostly vertically and in water that’s typically waist deep or deeper. Classes typically focus on aerobic endurance and resistance training.
